      Universities in Côte d'Ivoire developed and distributed hand sanitizers made from materials readily available materials in the country. Masks are wildly available, as are the thermal checkpoints that first came to prominence in the region's fight against Ebola.

          The most embarrassing thing about COVID-19 for the United States is that, it's not that expensive to stop the spread of COVID-19. Vaccines are expensive, tests are expensive, but temperature checks/isolation/contact tracing are cheap.

            The only thing that mattered here was the willingness to act early. And the US, for all its power and wealth, refused. Many poorer governments, even with the challenges that they have, did not. That's it
