People don't use anime to signify that a cartoon is Japanese. They use it like an artistic movement, not dissimilar from "romanticism". Romanticism in art is an English tradition but there were plenty of French, German, and American romantic artists as well.Permalink On twitter.com

So yeah, Avatar, Korra, Steven Universe, Miraculous Ladybug, fuckin all anime. Western anime, sure, but still anime. The creators of all these shows took heavy influences from anime.
