                          1. Missed this stream because I was working (I have a job now, lol) but it's pretty disappointing that the discourse hasn't moved much since the first time this came up. Some thoughts I guess @coffeeinjapan7/1280378167014952961

Most conceptions of Land Back don't even qualify as ethnostates in any sense. The Canadian or US government allowing people who live in a place to govern it autonomously is NOTZ creating an exclusionary society that favors one race over another.

Furthermore a lot of the "land" that people want "back" isn't actually inhabited. You'll noticed the biggest Land Back conflicts happen around mines, forests and pipelines - instances where the settler state forced indigenous people off their land to exploit natural...

Left-wing black nationalism is also not comparable to ethnostates. It's simply a request that black people run the communities where they exist, instead of being governed by white cops, white money, and white politicians. Again, autonomy is the key work here...

...It's not about exclusion or segregation. Anarchists have literally no problem with any of this because we think all communities should be autonomous from the state at once.

What's frustrating about Vaush is that, even without doing the research into Land Back and black nationalism, his understanding of Anarchism as an ideology should at least guide him away from any claims that these are in any way comparable to right-wing ethnostates.

Would he also argue that Palestinian right to return is an Arab ethnostate too? Why would Vaush readily accept criticism of Israel but then not apply those same criticisms to America, the place he lives? It's really fucking frustrating.

Like, imagine the conservatives who say right to return just means you hate Jews. This is what Vaush is doing except with his own country and its own indigenous population.

I'm glad he took the time to talk this out with an indigenous activist, but if it was just to get a BIPOC to explain things he could just Google, only for him to whine about indigenous rights afterwards, that's also shit

Long thread: final comment re "they just hate white people". You're always going to find marginalized people who have unflattering things to say about non-marginalized people

I'm a cis dude, alright? I've gotten a fair bit of "please shut up about X if you're not a woman" or "all men are trash" or whatever. And it doesn't make me any less likely to support trans and women's rights because I'm not a bitch baby who thinks everything is about me! Fuck

Anyway, I reiterate my stance that white people should not legally be allowed to hold opinions. Not literally, not because I "hate" white people, but because it's exhausting when white people ruin conversations that are already happening in our spaces
