                1. I need to talk about how terrible Low Society's Steven Universe take because I saw it last night and I got every form of cancer known to scientists. Each cancer has metastasized to every other part of my body. I have 12 hours to live youtu.be/NHkPyxv1SwM

Their take, summarized, is more or less: "Steven Universe suffers from being 'consciously' diverse. It puts all its energy into so-called good representation and not enough into telling a story. Bigots see Steven Universe and become more bigoted because of all the diversity."

So first of all, if you're a "leftist" and you sound indistinguishable from the reactionaries in my Medium comments, you're like not a leftist maybe? lmao

I haven't talked like this since I was an edgy teen in 2015, when I thought black conservativsm was the new punk rock. Why are there "leftists" who talk like this? Going on about forced diversity and shit like GamerGate never ended? ???

There's a point later in the video (because they just assert this without backing it up with evidence from the text, of course) where they say The Bookdocks couldn't've come out today because the wokes would call it "problematic".

Which is especially funny because The Boondocks is a story about identity. Yes, it's anti-liberal and anti-status quo, yes it criticizes Obama and the Democrats from the left, but it's a series first and foremost about blackness. The Boondocks is idpol, and it's amazing for it!

To gloss over that entire point and land on "The Boondocks is good because it criticizes liberalism without being woke" is quite literally class reductionism. But if you were to call Coffin et al out on this class reductionism they'd go on a rant about how it isn't real

I think what pisses me off the most here is that it's such lazy media analysis. I've been really insecure about my work lately, I haven't been able to write anime essays the way I want. When I come up with takes they don't always feel insightful or thought-through

And then these LAZY ASS MOTHERFUCKERS start firing garbage, reactionary takes from the hip like this is some kinda Spaghetti Western. No analysis, no thought, just vague sentiments that reinforce what they already believe.

The funny thing about all this is that, Steven Universe is an incredibly liberal show! If Low Society wanted to complain about liberalism, SU has a lot to complain about. But they are literally incapable of thinking for long enough to reach that point. It's so pathetic
