                1. So a lot of people told me to go watch Re:Zero's second OVA. Which I did, I had a meeting for work but I made my way through it. Would you be surprised if I told you it has all the same issues Re:Zero has? No?

So first of all, pro-tip: If you see someone who doesn't like a show you like, the last thing you want to suggest to them is to experience more of the story they already don't like. "Oh the story is bad? You'll love it when there's more, and in book form!"

The story is Emilia's backstory. It is a story about her, this is true. But Emilia still has the same relationship to power as she has in the main show?

Essentially, Puck is tasked with being Emilia's guardian angle. Protecting her from the sidelines, guiding her with a gentle and- you see that? You see what's happening again? The set-up is the same with how Subaru protects Emilia in Season 1.

We have a dude, who has all this information that Emilia doesn't have access to. Making decisions behind her back to protect her. Emilia, by virtue of not having the full range of information she could have, can't make impactful decisions.

There's this scene where Emilia wants to rush into danger to save the forest she lives in and her village. She declares she wants to do it herself instead of relying on Puck. And she wins!

But there's a larger threat off-screen going on that Puck is taking care of for her and she doesn't get to know about. And then when this threat threatens her Puck just saves her.

It's weird to me that people defending Re:Zero are dying on this hill that Emilia is a strong, like independent woman or whatever. It's not even her role. Emilia's role, as stated by the story, isn't to be some hero. Her role is to find happiness in a world that hates her.

She was written to be a cute girl who is protected from the irrational cruelty of the world. This is the actual thematic throughline of her character. Trying to claim that it's the opposite thing means you have to admit the story is rather incompetent
