          When I was a kid, my parents taught me that if you hurt someone, you say sorry. And I think that's good advice, and it's still something I live by, but when you're older than, say, 12, you learn that "sorry" doesn't necessarily come with "it's okay" or "I forgive you".

        Middle school or not, Coleman ruined the lives of several women. The only way to really "fix" a situation like that is if each individual he's ever wronged at once decided that what he did no longer affects them. And that's not fair to the victims.

      Many are quick to say "well are we really going to hold something he did in middle school against him???" And yeah, I guess it feels unfair that this person will never run for office because of what they did. But it's more unfair that several people now have lifelong trauma...

    ...because of what Coleman did. And if your immediate reaction is to sympathize with the abuser and not the victims you have some biases to examine. Some people just don't deserve to ever run for public office and that's fine. There are plenty of other things he can do to help
