  1. Since I was talking about it in the other thread, I want to make it clear that I don't hate social democrats or anything. I think because a lot of people were social democrats before becoming communists, they treat social democracy as the natural evolution from capitalism.

My experience is different. I was only ever a social democrat for a brief period of time as a teen, before swinging right and then left again. I was a neolib, then I really fell in love with UBI, then I realized that UBI isn't enough because the system is broken.

In addition, a lot of the people in my personal life who are radical but not out-and-out commies are radicalized by police brutality and systemic racism. So focusing on the GND, M4A, and wiping college debt doesn't really move them left. Even if they would support those things

The promise of social democracy is also anti communist. The social democrats claim they can do everything we want to do without abolishing capitalism.

They go "We're not crazy like those communists. Abolishing capitalism will just lead to starvation like the USSR/China/Cuba/Vuvuzela. Socialism is when the government gives people healthcare. I want the socialism they have in Canada!😊"

An like obviously people do grow out of this phase. If they didn't I wouldn't be talking to a lot of you. But you can also see how social democracy is the last failsafe the capitalist class has before allowing real socialism to enter the conversation.

As much as Bernie Sanders has done good for the United States, he's also defined "reasonable socialism" as "when the government hands out welfare under capitalism". When we start demanding proper socialism, this wall will be used against us by social democrats and liberals alike

Social democrats are good to have around: they oppose most of our opponents and share most of our values. But if we're building our own channels of radicalization there's no reason to believe that people have to stop by them first, if that makes sense.

It doesn't have to be all at once. No one becomes a communist in a day. But by slowly criticizing current systems, and by slowly pointing out we need entirely new ones, you can bring over people who are pretty conservative directly to our side
