So I finally got to the fabled aliens in Franxx and like... wow this really makes -500 sense huh? I'm supposed to be doing homework but I really feel like I've got a banger thread in me so let's go
-
I GUESS if I wanted to be nice I could say it follows the patter of Kill la Kill and TTGL, among other Trigger projects, that have two opposing sides fight only to be united against a common cause: aliens
-
But here's the thing. Franxx's twist happens with absolutely no build up at episode 20 of fucking 24. So I went back and checked, right?
-
Actually 15 isn't when we learn it's aliens, we just learn there's a bigger threat. It's actually 17 (I think? maybe even later?) after a 7-year timeskip at any rate. And the story doesn't fully pivot into space battle until later.
-
I guess my point here is that Franxx is trying to do what took its parents 4 or 5 episodes in a paragraph of dialogue, and it's one of the most awful things I've ever experienced. It's very funny How could so much of Franxx's staff have worked on both and still failed to get it?

Although, to be fair to Franxx (lol), I think I actually like Kill la Kill and TTGL less now? Because in Franxx this whole twist has revealed itself to be a rather shallow and annoying misdirection
