        1. It's been a few years since I kept up with DC comics but I've been thinking about how the ideology of superheroes goes hand in hand with the pandemic. Specifically with the idea that essential workers are "heroes".

        The Justice League doesn't get paid. In fact, Batman finances the Watchtower and most of the equipment. Superman doesn't need to unionize. He doesn't demand hazard pay if a mission involves Kryptonite or red star radiation.

      Heroes protect people out of the goodness of their hearts, and receive payment in smiles, thank yous, and long kisses upside down in the rain. So when they say "nurses and essential workers are heroes" they are applying those qualities to... workers. Who do in fact need money

    On that note, My Hero Academia is a good foil to US-based superhero stories because the heroes in that story DO get paid by the government and DO worry about their salaries. But Kohei Horikoshi is too much of a reactionary dipshit to realize his own story is interesting
