Thing about Jobless Reincarnation is that it's so bad it actually primes me to sit down and watch Re:Zero. So that's what I'm going to do next
-
I know my Re:Zero hate fandom was celebrating when I declared this summer that I wouldn't be bothering with it anymore. In case this thread attracts them again I just gotta say... stay mad lol
-
So we start where we left off with Otto telling Subaru to reach out when he needs help. And I agree with that, fundamentally? But Re:Zero's gender politics are fucking weird, right?
-
Like I don't dispute that Subaru needs male friends, but it's framed in a way that's weird and unhealthy. And honestly at this point he needs to learn how to treat women as friends and not objects
-
Though I've heard the show (tries) to address that second point so we'll see
-
Just make Otto gay coward writing tbh
-
I'm also gonna have problems if Subaru can make Otto understand Return by Death and not Emilia
-
Oh no I kinda like the OST
-
Let Emilia do her own arcs. Let her be
-
This author looked up the 7 deadly sins on wikipedia and thought they were cool
-
If Franxx has aspect ratio changes Re:Zero has sudden changes in weather/lighting
-
I mean Re:Zero sure does try
-
So I gotta keep track of all these clones, okay
-
I got Emilia'd again. I thought she was gonna have character and shit but she's just Anime Nice
-
And yet, paradoxically, it feels like all it does is explain more things
-
Bye puck. Later. I guess? Okay.
-
Like the details of the contract were never really explained in the movie or the show. So you can't be like "oh I'm breaking the contract now" and expect it to hit. Tell the story in order I keep tryna say
-
Episode 2 Otto controls animals apparently
-
Sheiyk Otto, assalaam alaykum
-
So the dude Googled the Ottoman Empire and thought it was cool too
-
Like is this anti Semitism? I didn't expect to have to use a religious lens on this show
-
I'm sorry this is just such a curveball compared to the things I usually complain about with Re:Zero
-
Ram is cool. More Ram. Less other things
-
There were no fantasy Muslim names? Otto? I'm reeling
-
Back to Emilia
-
So Emilia is doing the Subaru thing of "oh I don't deserve to have people like me bc I'm selfish and sad" sure sure
-
Where it prioritizes emotional outbursts over the character work that makes them resonant and hides information in really long, kinda boring exposition segments (and also OTHER FILMS)
-
Subaru is p bad at this ngl
-
Isn't Subaru supposed to be like, a changed man since season 1 episode 13? Why is he acting like an entitled ass again? Is it maybe because his character is more stagnant than people say? Questions questions
-
Oh so the thing I missed is that she asked him to stay until morning and he didn't. Got it got it that makes more sense
-
Kinda disappointed that the doll line doesn't carry any weight even tho it's the truest shit
-
I'll need more time to have a take tbh because that was... a lot? I think there were bits and pieces here and there that address some of my long standing issues with Re:Zero, which is nice, but the show doesn't commit to them
-
It feels always one step forward, two steps back. I'm not convinced the argument between Subaru and Emilia naturally leads to them kissing? Because Emilia doesn't really like Subaru right now and it reads like her feelings don't matter because he loves her
-
That being said I guess I'm happy they kissed because their relationship was so fuckin stagnant y'know?
-
The religious stuff was weird, but I'd have to Re:Watch Re:Zero with it in mind to get a good take out of it. And that would mean like, what, my third season 1 viewing and my second season 2 viewing? Eh, no thanks.
-
Overall: not the worst thing this season but I wouldn't call it "good". It's doing some things at least and is more interesting than the first half of this season
