There's a position I see on the left both irl and online. I'm not sure what I'd call it but it's more or less summarized as "stop wasting time fighting fascism when the liberals and imperialists are our real enemy" 🧵🧵
-
I think this comes, in part, from a desire not to hyperfixate on Trump as uniquely terrible (most of the stuff he's done is par for the course for the US gov) or to paint the Dems as a fundamental change.
-
But I think this swings too far in the opposite direction, where leftists will just not engage in anti-fascism at all. They'll say like Trump and the militias to his right aren't fascists, and something like "American leftists want to fight everything except the bourgeoisie"
-
This misunderstands, I think, the core function of fascism. Fascism and liberalism aren't distinct things. Liberalism grows fascism to use as a tool against the left. You can't *just* focus in capital and not fight fascists that don't make sense.
-
Look at the mess we're in: White nationalist militias are more organized and bold than they've been in decades. The state is using that to craft new "anti terror" legislation that, in theory, is supposed to stop fascists. But in practice is and will attack us instead.
-
Our failure to keep fascism in check is the working class movement digging its own grave. It's allowing the state to load the gun it'll end us with.
-
This is why it's extra important to me that we call Trump a fascist. Yeah, when we do, we'll be in the company of libs who think Joe Biden is The Resistance who "saved democracy". But, like, we just gotta ignore them? And organize anyway?

I stole all these ideas from Anarchism and the Black Revolution. I just find myself coming back to it Specifically the sections labeled "Smash The Right Wing!" and "Defeat White Supremacy!" theanarchistlibrary.org/library/lorenzo-kom-boa-ervin-anarchism-and-the-black-revolution

Ervin also wrote this piece on why he became an anarchist despite organizing with the Black Panther Party, who were Marxist-Leninist. blackrosefed.org/komboa-why-i-am-an-anarchist/ He also has a podcast I still need to listen to? Busy dude
