Okay okay I'll watch 11th egg. Goodness is the TL in a frenzy today
-
this certainly is an episode of an anime so far huh
-
wait no what is it doing
-
ion like it
-
what
-
so why is it that when a gay couple makes a child with SCIENCE she's a horny murderer but when a straight couple makes a child she's uwu perfect
-
you know what I stand corrected in the sense that both children are horny
-
what's happening here what is this
-
wait so the anime actually wants to punch the CEO of little girl suicide in the face?
-
hm okay
-
Well I think the next episode can redeem some of this? The anime wants to give a name, face, and backstory to the complex societal issues the characters have been tackling all season, so that it can get wrecked in an epic fight
-
If that fight doesn't go too far into lore-land and sticks to the message, it'll probably be alright
-
But there are other parts of 11th egg that are just irredeemable. Namely all the children that are sexually into adults (confirming my worst fears about Ai and Sawaki). And presenting the child of a gay couple as unnatural and fearful
-
12th egg won't fix any of that, and that SUPER sucks
-
An alternative reading brought to my attention: Frill was basically created by sexist and patriarchal ideas men have of women. She could just be patriarchy, and if 12th egg makes that clear I will probably... mostly forgive 11th egg
-
but it has to be SUPER obvious otherwise it just won't work. Egg has been on thin ice since day one and next week we'll finally figure out if it sticks the landing or crashes and burns in a fire exciting!
