I'll set the stage: - a valiant effort to tackle social issues few other anime acknowledge exist - really fucking cute girls - a production company which, like my life, has all but come off the rails - it's all riding on this. one. episode!!!
-
I'm... being dramatic just let me have fun please
-
this was worth it now, actually
-
kinda don't want another gore scene, actually
-
anyway - okay Egg if you say so I'm along for the ride
-
Wonder Egg Priority spoilers so my basic writer's intuition here says Ai's boss is gonna be Sawaki-sensei, right? Which would most readily tie up the thing with Frill and Sawaki if done well that's the quick and dirty "we ran out of time" answer anyway
-
skipping the OP because it no longer looks as good as the show itself and that just makes me depressed
-
Wonder Egg Priority spoilers So Ai was the 12th egg, huh? how does that even make sense don't you have to commit suicide to become an egg? ... y'know typing this sentence out I realize why I keep losing followers
-
since when was this show a space-time sorta deal
-
I'm quickly beginning to piece together what this episode is going to do
-
oh there's a mirror
-
sorry everyone it's a mirror but... why is there a mirror in the middle of a hall
-
dropping the eye thing. moving on
-
man I spent so long on that mirror thing
-
I mean I did guess this I was right
-
Wonder Egg Priority spoilers wait I need good boss music how about some Homestuck: youtu.be/bjAK8D5ytiU
-
so I'm disappointed at the basic writing but I'm relieved that this wasn't worse which would be NOT making Sawaki-sensei a villain which y'know can't believe that was a possibility for this long that's irresponsible
-
man stop playin just pick a villain
-
it's not entirely clear what's happening then again I did make the mistake with the mirror
-
oh is it gore time already
-
So y'all want some egg thoughts? Y'all want some raw, uncooked, uncracked, unfiltered, fresh-out-the-chicken-butt egg thoughts? Here are the egg thoughts
-
I want to make two things clear. First the fabled production issues this show has run into are super obvious. I thought they were mostly holding it together on the visual end but this episode wow I'm afraid to even go back and compare to what I saw in episodes 1-4
-
But the second thing is that I don't want to blame all of the show's failures on production issues. There were writing problems that basically always existed from the first episode. The writing is much better at raising questions than finding solutions.
-
But my annoyance is that... Wonder Egg Priority is not the only anime that this has happened to. People tried to argue with me that Darling in the Franxx was a good anime if you ignore episodes 16 to 24. That's almost half the show
-
I guess how I feel right now is that Egg is being held to a standard we wouldn't hold other anime. Especially, say, shounen anime
-
It seems weird to me that things like One Piece and My Hero Academia can have entire arcs where the writing just... doesn't work and still be held up as really good. But Wonder Egg Priority needs each and every episode to be perfect or the whole thing's ruined
-
And the thing that makes it worse is that we rarely get media that are this trans affirming and this feminist from anime.
-
No I'm not saying everyone who doesn't like Egg is sexist or transphobic. I'm saying a lot of people maybe didn't like the fact that a show like Egg was being held up as an instant classic and were waiting for an excuse to shit on it. And episodes 9-12 are that excuse now
-
So yeah, I really like Wonder Egg Priority. Is it perfect? No. Did the finale make sense? They literally ran out of time to do a proper finale so no. But is it still overall a really powerful and beautiful piece of work? Yes, yes it is. I'd recommend it to people
