  1. So "Islamism" as a term didn't mean "fundamentalist Islam" until the 1980s. Salafism, the ideology that people are referring to when they say "Islamism", wasn't actually a thing in 1917 outside of the Arab peninsula (Saudi Arabia wasn't a thing yet either) @TulsiGabbard/1386103621608099842

      I had this pointed out years ago but Westerners seem to think that, like, when a Christian does something it's because of all these factors and isms that it happened. But when a Muslim does something it's because it's written in the Quran somewhere
