                              1. So I will try to live tweet the whole Vaush/Lua convo. We'll go until I get frustrated or tired, and then keep going tomorrow Personally I feel like most of this will boil down to "Vaush doesn't understand colonialism" and "Vaush doesn't understand the Black Power movement"

In the resistance to any colonial project, you will find responses to that project that contain reactionary elements. But those reactionary elements are not comparable to the colonizers themselves. Super easy concept. We did a podcast about it, actually youtu.be/RLzy3w2EIMI

Like, saying "Hamas and the IDF are just as bad" would be equally deranged. They're not. They don't have power. They don't cause the same harm. They don't come from the same social forces. That line of reasoning only helps the colonizing side

Lua's opening is perfect of course and should be the end of the conversation but it's not.

Malcom X described himself as a Black nationalist, but often spoke of separation of Black people from white people. He describes why in Ballot or the Bullet, even clearly marking how these ideas are different than white nationalism

At a moment in history where white people were fighting the idea of sharing any spaces with Black people with state violence, a lot of Black people came to the conclusion that self-determination would probably take place in a Black-only space.

It's objectively not the same as being a Nazi. That's not a genocidal project. It's a project of self-preservation. One that I think is flawed, but that's what it is. just read Malcom man. It's free. Let's continue. americanradioworks.publicradio.org/features/blackspeech/mx.html

So it's true that the New Black Panther Party, Black Israelites, and other groups are anti Semitic and homophobic. That doesn't make it useful to compare Black separatism to white nationalism

South Africa is a really unfortunate example to bring up because white racists use it as an example of anti-racism "going too far" and "swinging in the opposite direction" already!
            1. …in reply to @__MoBlack
The truth about South Africa is that white people still control the wealth and land there. The old apartheid neighborhood lines are still the same. So to act like the country is in danger of white genocide when it hasn't even reached equality yet is gross

Vaush wants to equate decolonization with deporting millions of white people without acknowledging that many white South Africans fled VOLUNTARILY because they could not imagine a world where they live in equality with Black people
        1. …in reply to @__MoBlack
This is exactly what Malcom X wrote about. Without having to force a single white person out, white people flee Black areas *anyway*. The question is how Black people exert control over their own spaces, countries, etc

Lua says this. She literally just... so where is this idea of justifying racial deportation actually coming from? His ass most likely. I have a feeling we'll be stuck on this for a while, so I'll stop until there's a new thing
    1. …in reply to @__MoBlack
She's defending decolonial movements that have already happened, and Vaush just wheels back around with this made-up scenario about concentration camps for white people

Like, if you wanna point to the African country that become a genocidal anti-white ethnostate because they fought for self-determination too hard, by all means do so. Fact is most became the opposite: financially and politically dependent on their former colonizers

There's literally a French-backsd coup going on in Guinea-Conakry as we speak, dude.
