          1. Studying and understanding political theory is important, actually. It's important enough to count as organizing as much as doing a protest, a strike, or mutual aid are. Not to be all "welcome to the left, there's homework" but it's true. 🧵

This is a departure from my previous takes on theory. I still think that avoiding gatekeeping is critical. Recognizing that what we call "theory" is not always accessible is critical. Recognizing "theory" skews cishet/male/white/Western is key too @__MoBlack/1260448139301081092

But that's why I said "studying and understanding" as opposed to "reading". Not everyone has to *read* Capital. *Reading* X or Y doesn't make you more of a socialist. But, if the core ideas from Capital were wildly understood we'd be in a much better situation.

What people forget is that organizing isn't some outside group pressuring ordinary ppl. It's the working class collectively making political decisions in democratic orgs (unions, councils, affinity groups, parties). Political theory is essential to good, radical decision making

What the online left calls "theory" is actually called "political education" lmao. Every successful revolutionary organization has done it. The Black Panther Party did it. The Bolsheviks did it. Mao did it. The PYD in Rojava does it. The Zapatistas do it
