                                        1. I think I'm going to do it. I'm going to watch Squid Game. This is the Squid Game thread, with Squid Game spoilers

I'm putting episode 2 here. The thread would get unwieldy otherwise

You know what I fucking forgot to tweet? "Kirito if you die in the game you die in real life." with a screencap of the first dude getting shot. fuck it would've been so funny. and now the moment is gone forever

I like that they showed up with guns the second time, not the first. The first time they wanted to build trust. The second time they're ready to crush a riot

But the same people who defend cops think the pink guys in Squid Game have a point lmao. No saving them

And I like how the only real way out of this is for everyone to collectively make the decision to defend themselves. Every player has to decide they don't want to. It's really, really well-positioned politically.

They're doing a union vote, and the games use the promise of bonuses for a few to break the solidarity of the many

And I like that per eliminated player the prize money grows, to get you thinking that you can personally beat the system and win, rather than the correct choice of ending the system of exploitation and death

"It's just as bad out there as it is in here" the show is really obvious. this is a good thing, but it's funny how much of the discourse is like, not getting still somehow

They fucking call it a democracy even though one group of people manufactured the circumstances behind the vote to suit their interests. Isn't that funny. It's almost as if it's a dictatorship of a certain class of people

I like how he doesn't know what a future is. Very relatable. I did IT for a futures company for a bit and I still don't know what it is. I followed the whole Gamestop saga and I still don't know what the fuck a future is

Ali's employer does not pay him, which is why he is in debt. He had to go to the hospital because the job wrecked him. No unions. No healthcare. No compensation. And they will say it's about "consumerism" or something holy fuck

A second character says that it's worse outside, in capitalism, than in the game. But please, I'm sooo confused what is this show trying to say??
      1. …in reply to @__MoBlack
Seong Gi-Hun watched a guy die at work instead of being there for his child's birth, and then was laid off later. The show's criticism of capitalism is rather thorough. It's not just the debt and the violence, it also makes relationships impossible

Wow I ended up finishing this episode. I am so tired. My homework is unfinished. Tomorrow is going to be hell. But I think this was worth it
          1. …in reply to @__MoBlack
This is what a critique of capitalism looks like. What'll put Squid Game over the edge is if it starts advocating for any kind of socialism as a solution. So I'll look out for that
            1. …in reply to @__MoBlack
I like that everyone that decides to go back quite literally has no choice. We're shown their options. they have none. The Squid Game isn't voluntary
